I’ve had my E92 328i since March 2017 and I’m starting to seriously think about replacing it. It’s been very good to me, I just think I want something different. I’ve been thinking about a newer C-Class, but another serious contender might be an IS-F. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and I quite like it

Kinja'd!!!

This 2011 red IS-F is something I’m thinking about.

Kinja'd!!!

There are two problems I see with this, first is my 3 is paid for and I’m not super keen on taking on a car payment. Second is that I might need to spend a few dollars at the jewelry store soon; money that could’ve gone to a nice down payment.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve also got a psychological problem with getting a loan on a car with that many miles. I could pay cash, but after my experience of being unemployed for 11 months, I like to have access to a decent amount of liquid funds. I also don’t like the 2002 infotainment system.

Kinja'd!!!

Other than that, I can appreciate the tan leather interior .

Kinja'd!!!

It is also a pretty great looking car. Not quite as good an E90 M3, but it’s up there.

Kinja'd!!!

So for 27k, am I going to have a new daily? No, I’m not.

That said, if they drop the price to around 22k, I think I might try to buy this.

Kinja'd!!!

I really want this, but it’s just got too many miles for me to pay that.

Do it!!!!

I’ve often wondered how well the IS acquits itself in that pretty tough league.  The magazine reviewers always seem to like it.

Supercharge the 328, that would be a fun daily...

It’s a fantastic driving car, the E9X M3 is better, but the IS-F is close. I say that having driven both, for a decent amount. I’m thinking about inquiring and taking this to a more serious state.

Then I need to do the clutch, and then maybe the transmission, and then the diff. It’d never end. I have thought about it, but it makes more sense to buy a 335i and turn the boost to 11. I wouldn’t do that, as I’d get a 335d and mod it.

Does the 328 and 335 have different trans and diff? Coz if the 335 drivetrain can take that much torque... getting a 335i or 335d is also a good option, last I checked they were around the 15k mark.

Kinja'd!!!1

I’m not really sure about the transmission, but I’d want a new diff as it’s an open diff in the non-M cars. A 335d is a lot more likely as it’d be completely different and the torque is addictive .

That money is already earmarked. More of, if I didn’t have to spend it there, I could spend it on this and make this price more palatable.

I really need to type up an email this week and send it.

Yup, makes sense... Although I don't think the US ever got a manual 335d...

We didn’t, but it’s fine as the auto box can take a lot more power/torque.

That seems to be a lot of money for a 2011, maybe look for a newer ex-loaner. Also, you may want to feel out the person receiving the jewelry . That whole two months thing is nonsense and you end up with a rock of some assigned value that isn’t based on much other than tradition.  Save that cash, have a small ceremony (especially these days) and plan for your future (or a car,  no stick with your future).

The Lexus is a lot of money, which is why I haven’t tried to buy it.

The girl that would be receiving the jewelry is an MD and her dad apparently is going to be paying for any potential wedding. She’s sentimental and I don’t want to pay less than I did for my Day-Date. I’ve thought a lot about this and it’s what I want to do.

recent jewelry shopper here, take your intended budget and add 50-100%.

be ready for the ol’ nickel-and-dime like resizing appraisals re-polishing/plating, etc.

Might be too many miles for the money, but the ISF is rock solid Toyota reliable. Heard of many examples with 150-200k with no issues.

Aftermarket exists to overlay apple carplay/Android auto over the crap Lexus infotainment.

Id love to see some ISF content on oppo

Do you need to replace it? Why not get something to compliment it instead. Jeep (doors off, bro!), Miata / S2000, Mk2 GTI, or something else that purely brings you joy.

We actually went last weekend and figured out pretty much exactly what she wanted. It might be 50-100% more than what she was thinking, but it’s a couple grand below my max budget.

That’s good to be aware of.

There is someone here with an IS-F, but he’s not super active any more. In fact, I helped road trip the car 1200 miles home.

I’m not sure I want to start with a car with that many miles for that much, but it’s definitely something I’m going to be shopping for. I’d want a 2011 or newer as those got a lot of upgrades.

This would be to complement the M3, and I’m thinking one of its competitors would be an excellent stable mate.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of the M3, but I don’t want to daily it. I’ve very much enjoyed my 328i, but I think it might be time for a change.

All together that stuff would set you back way less than a grand, which for some purchases is a good chunk, and for some is a rounding error. Our guy only sends out for casting unless specifically requested, so his  price was inclusive of setting and replating. He threw in polishing as well, but I had to beat him up to get the appraisal. He knows I blew past my budget a few grand ago so he let it slide.

Jewellery - expensive.

Big party celebrating you giving that jewellery to someone one - super expensive and super time consuming. You won’t have many opportunities to even enjoy your new ride, and will dread having a loan to worry about after.

^Assuming that’s your plan.

While it is expensive, other than the jewelry, not sure I'm going to have any other finical obligations. I do see your point though.

These fetch a decent price and that might actually be a fare rate for those miles. Not sure why they've held their value so well, but it is what it is.

I love my tan interior, especially in the Florida heat.

I’m not you, because even if I had the money for a new car I’d probably drive whatever I own into the ground (in this case, my 2012 Acura). That doesn’t mean you can’t, but do you really need to? There are cheaper ways to drive new cars, that’s sure and certain.

The car I drive every day, my 2009 E92 328i, might need some expensive things soon. I also want something different , sure there are cheaper ways to get something different, but I want to be excited about driving it. I’ve got a thing for the small V8 sedans that came out around 2008. I don’t really need to, but I want to. The most logical thing would be to sell my 328i and drive my M3 every day. I don’t want to do that though.

Kinja'd!!! E90M3 > Discerning
08/22/2020 at 21:48

After 2008, they’re rare.

Kinja'd!!!

The 2011+s are the ones you want and there’s only a finite number of those. 1447 to be exact, plus the colors seem to hold their value better.

That one is more than I’d pay for those miles, but that doesn’t make it a bad price. I’m going to watch it, and if it drops into a range I’d be willing to pay, I might snag it.

It’s true, being logical is pretty boring. It’s an awesome looking car, and you’ll be one of the few people keeping the V8 engine alive, so do what your heart desires (and also what the more qualified Oppos recommend .
